Former Punjab Congress leader and wife of ex-cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, has once again launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. After resigning from the party last month, she has now openly stated that while Rahul Gandhi speaks sensibly and delivers good messages, there is a massive difference between his words and actions. She accused him of refusing to meet her despite repeated requests to explain the ground reality in Punjab, leading to the party being pushed to the brink of destruction in the state.
In an exclusive interview with news agency ANI in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Navjot Kaur said: "Rahul Gandhi speaks good things. He talks about wisdom. But there is a huge difference between what he says and what he does." She further elaborated:
"For the past eight months, I have been asking for time from him so that I can tell him that your people, your president, or the persons appointed by you are not doing justice to Punjab. They are finishing off Congress in Punjab. I am only asking for a meeting so that I can inform you that your party is being ruined in Punjab. Tickets have already been sold... If you don't know what's happening under you, I'm sorry. You are not worthy of that chair. You are responsible for what you are doing..."
Broken Promises and Allegations of Betrayal Navjot Kaur revealed that she and her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu had sacrificed everything for Punjab. The party had promised her the Deputy Chief Minister post along with seven departments and a Lok Sabha seat for Navjot Singh Sidhu. However, nothing materialized. In the end, she was given only the Local Bodies and Tourism departments, and that too with the condition that she would follow the Chief Minister's instructions.
She raised a sharp question:
"When your own people are corrupt, why do you speak against corruption? And you keep those very corrupt people around you. Honest people who want to meet you and tell you that things are going wrong and that you will not win Punjab – you have no time for them."
This statement comes at a time when Congress's position in Punjab continues to deteriorate. Navjot Kaur alleged that ticket distribution has become a business in the party and organizational-level corruption has reached its peak.
Controversy Erupts After Resignation** On January 31, 2026, Navjot Kaur announced her resignation from Congress. Immediately after, she accused Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring of damaging the organization. She claimed that Raja Warring and his associates were actively weakening Congress in Punjab.
Navjot Kaur also questioned the party's top leadership, saying they are either unaware of Punjab's ground reality or deliberately choosing to ignore it. She believes that if Rahul Gandhi had been properly informed, the situation might have been different, but the refusal to grant a meeting has caused heavy damage to the party.
The Decline of Congress in Punjab: A Snapshot
Congress in Punjab has been in crisis since its defeat in the 2022 Assembly elections. After Captain Amarinder Singh's resignation, factionalism intensified. Navjot Singh Sidhu's activism and Navjot Kaur's entry into politics had initially raised hopes of injecting new energy into the party. However, both are now distanced from Congress.
Navjot Kaur's statement is a major blow, as she was active in the women's wing and youth Congress. She alleged that honest workers' voices are being suppressed while corrupt elements dominate.
Questions Rain on Rahul Gandhi** Navjot Kaur directly held Rahul Gandhi responsible. She said that if the top leadership lacks information, they are not worthy of their positions. She stated: "You are responsible for what you are doing." This remark questions Rahul Gandhi's image as a party reformer.
After the party's defeat in Punjab, Rahul Gandhi visited the state multiple times and claimed to strengthen the organization, but Navjot Kaur insists the ground reality is completely different.
Warning Bell for Congress Navjot Kaur Sidhu's revelations pose a serious crisis for Congress. In a key state like Punjab, where the party is already weak, statements from a former leader like this can further damage its image. Will Rahul Gandhi or the Congress leadership respond? Will any major steps be taken to save the party in Punjab? Or will this controversy deepen further?
Only time will tell the impact of Navjot Kaur's allegations, but for now, unrest in Punjab Congress has intensified.
