Martyr Ali Larijani: A Shaheed Thinker, Warrior, and Patriot Whose Legacy Lives Eternally

On the fateful night of March 17, 2026, a dark chapter unfolded when a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike claimed the life of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary, veteran statesman, and philosopher Ali Larijani. At 67, while visiting his daughter in a Tehran suburb, his residence was targeted in a precision strike. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described it as a "successful elimination," but Iran bestowed upon him the sacred status of "martyrdom." Tragically, his son Morteza Larijani, aide Alireza Bayat, and several bodyguards perished alongside him.

Tehran's streets filled with millions in grief; massive crowds gathered at Enghelab Square for his funeral procession. Iranian state media hailed him as "Shaheed-e-Vatan" – the martyr of the nation – a man who stood firm in defense of the Islamic Republic until his final breath. Yet Ali Larijani was far more than a leader: he embodied an idea, a resolve, and a profound sacrifice.

From Birth to Martyrdom: The Journey of a Multifaceted Personality

Born on June 3, 1958, in Najaf, Iraq, Ali Ardeshir Larijani hailed from a prominent religious-political family. His father, Ayatollah Mirza Hashem Amoli Larijani, and brothers Sadegh, Mohammad Javad, and Baqer were all influential figures in Iran's politics and clergy. The family was often likened to "Iran's Kennedys."

Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Larijani joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He served as a commander during the grueling Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988). Post-war, his talents shone brightly: from 1994 to 1997 as Minister of Culture, then from 1994 to 2004 as head of the state broadcaster IRIB, where he expanded media infrastructure with six new radio stations and five TV channels.

In 2005, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appointed him Iran's nuclear negotiator, where he engaged firmly with the EU and IAEA until 2007. From 2008 to 2020, he served three terms as Speaker of the Majlis (Parliament), playing a pivotal role in ratifying the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal – a major diplomatic victory for Iran.

In 2020, he joined the Expediency Discernment Council. By 2025, he was appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). Following the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28, 2026, at the war's outset, Larijani emerged as Iran's de facto leader during the conflict's early phase. He steered national strategy – forging alliances with Russia and China, engaging Gulf states, and shaping nuclear and regional policies.

Contributions and Sacrifices: His Immortal Place in Iran's Glory**

→ Security and Strategy

→ As SNSC Secretary, he fortified Iran's national security apparatus. Amid the war, he masterminded retaliatory operations, including strikes on Gulf oil facilities.

→ **Face of Diplomacy**

→ His crucial role in the JCPOA negotiations showcased unyielding resolve; he negotiated with the West without compromise. He also contributed to the 25-year strategic partnership with China.

 → **Philosophical Depth**

→ A true intellectual, he authored books on Immanuel Kant and studied under philosopher Ahmad Farid. He infused politics with profound thought and reason.

→ **Symbol of Resistance**

→ He never bowed to U.S.-Israeli pressure. In his final weeks, he warned: "Killing our leaders will only make Iran stronger."

His martyrdom unified Iran. Millions poured onto streets chanting, "Larijani lives in the resistance!"

Message of Martyrdom: History Will Never Forget Him

Ali Larijani was not merely an official – he was the soul of Iran. From IRGC ranks to parliament, media leadership to nuclear talks, he served on every front. When Khamenei fell, he steadied the nation. Enemies believed assassination would fracture Iran; instead, his shaheed status ignited renewed vigor.

Today, as Iran battles on, Larijani's legacy endures. His name stands for honor, courage, and unwavering loyalty. He sacrificed himself, yet Iran's resilience became eternal.

Salute to Martyr Ali Larijani!** Iran's pride, warrior of resistance – your memory will live forever. Khiraaj-e-Aqeedat – to you, your sacrifice, your vision.
