What was limited to the Persian Gulf until yesterday has now reached Jordan. The war-like situation between America and Iran is escalating day by day. As America is striking, Iran is retaliating in a more lethal way.
The latest flashpoint is the most critical US airbase in Jordan.
Missile Storm on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base
According to reports, Iran targeted the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base (MSAB) near Al Azraq, Jordan. This is the main forward operating base for the US Air Force's 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing, hosting F-15s, F-16s, F-35s, and A-10s.
In an overnight barrage, Iran unleashed drones and ballistic missiles. As per CBS News reporter Jennifer Jacobs, multiple American military aircraft suffered damage in the strikes.
Videos circulating online showed damaged US Seahawk helicopters and fighter jets being moved to secondary locations.
How Much Damage?
As per US media reports:
- Roughly eight F-15 fighter jets sustained light damage but were later returned to service after repairs.
- One A-10 Thunderbolt II , known as the Warthog, was directly struck and left with a missing wing.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attack. The IRGC said it targeted hangars and maintenance areas of F-35s, F-16s and F-15s.
30 Patriot Missiles Fired - Still Failed
To stop the attack, US forces had to fire more than 30 Patriot missiles, which is proving extremely costly. The Jordanian Army said 18 out of 20 ballistic missiles were intercepted, two fell in open areas.
Despite this massive air defence, aircraft were damaged, raising serious questions over US air defence.
The Backstory
This was not a random strike. A day earlier, the US had attacked five Iranian tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. In retaliation, Iran claimed attacks on eight tankers and two warships and the US base in Jordan.
The war has now expanded from oil tankers to airbases. US reports are now warning about rapidly shrinking stocks of Patriot missiles.
The Jordan attack proves Iran is no longer just defending - it is now aiming to destroy US air power on the ground itself.
