Himanshi Khurana, a 30-year-old Indian national residing in the city, was found murdered in what Toronto Police have classified as a case of
intimate partner violence . The authorities have issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for Abdul Ghafoori, 32, also from Toronto, charging him with
first-degree murder
The suspect remains at large. The incident began on
Friday, December 19, 2025 , when police received a missing person report around 10:41 pm in the
Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area of downtown Toronto. The following morning, on **Saturday, December 20**, at approximately **6:30 am**, officers located Khurana's body inside a residence in the same vicinity. Her death was immediately declared a
homicide -and the Toronto Police Homicide Unit
took over the investigation. This marks
Toronto's 40th homicide of 2025, leaving the local community in deep shock.

"We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of Ms. Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto. The Consulate has been in close touch with the matter over the past few days, and all possible assistance is being extended to the family in close coordination with local authorities."
The Consulate has assured full consular support, including legal guidance and any other necessary assistance to the grieving family, highlighting the Indian government's commitment to its citizens abroad.
