Hey "Ram" -Today is Gandhi Jayanti, and Mahatma Gandhi's last word was also this - Hey Ram! Today in the same country of Ram, posters have been put up on the streets of Mumbai that will make every aware Indian's head bow in shame and rise in anger.
On the walls and electric poles of many areas of Mumbai - Dadar, Mahim, Sion - it is written in big letters - "Illegal Prime Minister - Directed by Election Commission of India".
The meaning is clear - the Prime Minister is illegal, and its director is the Election Commission.
Never thought that this day would also come in the country.
Why were these posters put up? Allegation of Vote Theft
The story behind this poster is connected to Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Today on 2nd October, when the whole country is celebrating Gandhi Jayanti, a big demonstration is being held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against SIR (Special Intensive Revision) i.e. special revision of voter lists.
Opposition parties, student organizations AISA, NSUI, SFI and social activists Prashant Bhushan, Manoj Jha allege that crores of voters' names are being deleted from the list in the name of SIR. What does a common man have? Only one vote. If that same vote is stolen, what will be left of democracy?
People say that if there is no vote left, how will the government be formed? This is murder of democracy.
In this anger, these posters were put up in Mumbai today under the banner of CJP (Citizens for Justice and Peace). They say that when the election itself is not fair, how can the government formed from it be valid?
Ban on agitation, attempt to suppress voice?
The biggest question is why people are being stopped from raising their voice on Gandhi Jayanti itself?
In Delhi, police did not give permission for demonstration at Jantar Mantar, imposed Section 163 BNSS, closed 11 metro stations, detained AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj and hundreds of students. In Mumbai too, police is removing these posters.
Gandhiji had said - "It is our duty to raise voice against injustice." Today when people are following that same dharma, they are being stopped.
What is the true tribute on Gandhi Jayanti?
Bapu taught us Satyagraha. He taught us to fight against the British without weapons. Today on his birthday, these posters on the streets, the barricade at Jantar Mantar, and the silence of the public - all three are telling the same story.
Has the value of vote ended in the country today? Is the power of one vote the last power of democracy, which it is the duty of every citizen to save? This poster on the walls of Mumbai is not just a paper, but a question that is asking from every street.
On Gandhi Jayanti, it is easy to offer flowers at Rajghat, but it is difficult to save Gandhi's principles. And perhaps this poster on the streets of Mumbai today is the truest and most bitter tribute to Gandhi.
