In a shocking incident, a Dalit youth named Bablu Bairwa was subjected to a life-threatening axe attack by priest Raju merely for drinking water from a matki (earthen pot) in Ravidas Baba's temple. This temple belongs to the Dalit community itself, a place where equality and devotion are expected, yet here, caste discrimination took the form of violent aggression.

According to details of the incident, Bablu Bairwa was drinking water in the temple when priest Raju stopped him, hurled casteist abuses, and suddenly pulled out an axe to attack him. Bablu sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Local residents revealed that even though the temple is owned by Dalits, some individuals remain trapped in outdated caste prejudices, leading to outbursts of violence over the smallest actions.
This event once again exposes the deep-rooted caste divide persisting in society. Article 17 of the Indian Constitution abolishes untouchability, yet such cases continue to emerge, especially in rural areas. Members of the Dalit community often face discrimination even for basic facilities like drinking water from temples, wells, or public places. Experts point out that the lack of education and legal awareness is the reason these incidents persist.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and action is being taken against the accused priest Raju under the SC/ST Act. Dalit organizations have strongly condemned the incident and demanded justice. Sociologists believe that such events not only cause personal suffering but also breed distrust and tension across society.
This incident reminds us that the fight for equality is far from over. There is a need to keep alive the teachings of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and saints like Ravidas Baba, who preached that all human beings are equal. It is hoped that society will learn from this tragedy, move forward, and put an end to such brutality.
