Gideon Levy's Shocking Truth: Gaza Is Not a "Conflict," But a Victim of "Occupation"!

Gideon Levy's Shocking Truth: Gaza Is Not a "Conflict," But a Victim of "Occupation"!
Gideon Levy, the renowned Israeli journalist and columnist for Haaretz newspaper, makes statements about the Gaza crisis that hold a mirror to Israeli society. Levy clearly states:
"There is no conflict between Israel and Palestine. This is Israel's one-sided occupation, which must end." In his view, Gaza is the world's largest open-air prison, where 2 million people are trapped.

Why Does the Gaza Crisis Keep Returning? Levy explains that in 2005, Israel ostensibly withdrew from Gaza, but maintained a blockade by air, sea, and land. People cannot come in or go out. Electricity, water, medicine—everything is under Israel's control. The crisis repeats because the root problem—occupation—remains unresolved. Violence erupts every few years because the policy of oppression continues.

Gaza: "A Low-Cost Display of Power"? According to Levy, Gaza has become an easy target for Israel. By launching military operations, it demonstrates its strength—low risk, high reward. Crushing Palestinian resistance and gaining popularity in domestic politics. But this is not defense; it is collective punishment. Thousands of civilians are killed, homes destroyed—simply because the occupation is challenged.

The Israeli Society's "Crisis of Denial"

The most tragic aspect is Israeli society's denial. Levy says most Israelis have never met Palestinians. They turn away from the reality of the occupation. Starvation, displacement, and deaths are rising in Gaza, but people do not see it as a consequence of their own policies. The media remains silent, and society stays blind. Levy calls this "moral blindness"—a society that turns its face away from its responsibility. Gaza is a clear reflection of Israel's political and moral state, but no one wants to look.

Levy's voice is rarely heard in Israel, but it is the voice of truth. He believes real peace will only come when the occupation ends, the blockade is lifted, and equal rights are granted. Will the world and Israeli society ever accept this truth?
