Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei's Sharp Attack on the US: UN Security Council Statement is Just a Propaganda Game!

**Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei** has strongly criticized the recent statements by the US representative at the United Nations Security Council, labeling them as nothing more than a "publicity stunt" designed to deceive the public.
In a statement to IRNA on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Baghaei described the remarks by US Deputy Special Envoy for West Asia Morgan Ortagus— who claimed the US was "extending the hand of diplomacy" and pursuing meaningful negotiations with Tehran — as a mere propaganda tactic aimed at misleading people.
He stated: > "The rhetoric of the US representative regarding diplomacy and negotiations is merely a publicity stunt aimed at deceiving people."
Baghaei emphasized that these statements are a repetition of excessive demands with no basis in international law or the nuclear non-proliferation regime, and they cannot be considered genuine proposals or diplomatic actions.

He highlighted Iran's consistent commitment to meaningful and respectful diplomacy, while accusing the US of showing neither good intentions nor seriousness. Baghaei pointed out that Iran has never abandoned the path of dialogue, but it was the US that destroyed it through the use of force.

The spokesperson referenced several key examples of US betrayal:

→ The unilateral US withdrawal from the
JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal) in 2018, which was not a violation by Iran.

→ The June 13, 2025, attack by Israel on Iran while negotiations were ongoing, with the sixth round of talks scheduled for June 15.

→ The subsequent US involvement, bombing Iranian nuclear facilities (**Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan**) — a clear violation of international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)
. Baghaei sarcastically questioned: > "Are repeated breaches of commitments and attacks an expression of 'extending the hand of diplomacy'?"
He stressed that while Iran was engaged in talks, the US and its allies launched attacks that destroyed diplomacy.
Baghaei further criticized US demands — such as **zero uranium enrichment** — as having no foundation in international law. As an NPT member, Iran possesses an inalienable right to peaceful nuclear energy, including enrichment. He cited UNSC Resolution 2231, noting that all its provisions expired on **October 18, 2025, meaning the Security Council no longer holds authority to review Iran's nuclear issue.

This sharp response underscores the escalating tensions between Iran and the US, where mistrust has reached its peak following the **12-day conflict in June 2025**. Iran has repeatedly stated its readiness for respectful and balanced negotiations, but US conditions and military actions continue to make meaningful progress impossible.

Experts believe that without US recognition of Iran's legitimate rights and learning from past mistakes, genuine advancement will remain difficult. Iran's firm stance sends a clear message: progress will come through honest diplomacy, not propaganda and deception.
